May in Manchester has been incredible! One of the busiest, most diverse & challenging months is complete. We’re exhausted but very excited!

Altrincham Market Pop-Up

We kicked off the month with a successful pop-up appearance at Altrincham Market. This incredible place is something of a spiritual home as we share a postcode! The opportunity to connect directly with our local community was embraced with open arms. Fortunately, we were well looked after by the stall holder ‘regulars’ & the product was exceptionally well received by those that came along across the Early May Bank Holiday weekend.

Our direct-to-consumer proposition allows us to be very close to consumer needs, build relationships with families & listen keenly in order to refine our customer connection. Simply put, we’re able to offer our best possible service. A very pleasing take-out was the support for a local business with a contemporary UK Made product. Introducing the product embodiment of our design philosophy was a genuine honour.

Thank you to all existing friends of the brand that spent valuable weekend time with us & to all the new friends we made too – thank you. We’re already busy planning our next pop-up!

The middle of the month saw a fabulous exploration of Manchester’s fabled streets. In response to the growing ‘lifestyle’ presence of the brand we’re adopting a new approach to the brands imagery. Where better to celebrate that than our own city streets?! We’ve experimented with various compositions, locations (with a very questionable stand-in model) & stories which connect directly with real life. We don’t believe in over-produced, fantasy imagery; just as the product philosophy follows we celebrate a transparent, honest & authentic approach throughout which is evident in everything that carries our mark.

Developing a photography brief & collaborating on art direction was an entirely new (& terrifying) skill set. We’re excited to release the trial imagery which will help inform & inspire the next shoot planned for June – we’re on the look out for Manchester based models so if you know one, are one or fancy yourself as one please get in touch via hello@thisisbothbarrels.com.

Make It British Live

An incredibly inspiring couple of days at MiB Live in London. An annual event which is invaluable to brands, designers & manufacturers in the UK. An entire day spent in the expertly organized & delivered Symposium was fantastic. Being able to hear expert voices from established businesses such as Smyth & Gibson, Fashion Enter, Grenson, Joseph Cheaney, Jigsaw, John Smedley & Nigel Cabourn was a real privilege. There’s such incredible energy behind reinvigorating UK Made brands we returned inspired, full of ideas & with even more new like-minded friends.

As a young brand we embrace the responsibility of connecting UK Made with the present & future whilst always paying respect to the proud industrial past. UK Made product continues to represent the highest in quality, richest in history & amongst the most covetable across the world. Our aspirations include export markets such as Denmark, Germany, Japan & the USA. We’re excited to take our message, via our product, out to the world.

An enormous thanks to Kate Hills & her fantastic team for arranging, organizing & delivering such a spectacular event. We’re so proud to be part of what it means to be Made in the UK.
